Sitaram Yechury passed away at the age of 72

Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury passed away at the age of 72. He was admitted to AIIMS Delhi on August 19 after complaining of pneumonia. He was undergoing treatment for 25 days. The family has donated the body of the CPI(M) leader to the hospital. He was the party's general secretary thrice.

At the same time, a statement issued by the CPI(M) said that 'Comrade Sitaram Yechury had a serious infection in the respiratory tract. A team of doctors was treating him.'

'Paid tribute to Buddhadeb Bhattacharya while in AIIMS Yechury paid tribute to former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya on his death on August 22 while admitted in AIIMS. He said in a 6 minute 15 second video message, 'It is very unfortunate that I have to express my feelings towards Buddho da and say Lal Salaam from AIIMS itself.'

On August 23, Yechury posted on social media X about the electoral alliance between the CPM, Congress and National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir. On August 29, he posted a condolence message on the death of Abdul Ghafoor Noorani on X.

Leaders from across the country paid tribute to Yechury

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that Sitaram Yechury was my good friend. He was a true protector of the idea of ​​​​India and understood the country very well. I will miss the long discussions I had with him. My deepest condolences to his family in this hour of grief.

CM Mamata Banerjee said that it was very sad to hear the news of Yechury's death. He was an experienced parliamentarian and his departure is a big loss for national politics.

Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu said that it was deeply saddened by the demise of Yechury ji. He was a veteran leader of Indian politics. He was known for his deep understanding of issues and his connection with people at the grassroots level. May his soul rest in peace.

Sitaram Yechury, who secured the first rank in the country in the 12th examination, studied at All Saints High School till class 10th. He reached Delhi during the Telangana movement of 1969. Yechury took admission in President's Estate School in Delhi and secured All India Rank-1 in the CBSE Higher Secondary Examination. He did BA (Hons) in Economics with first rank from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. Then did MA in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He took admission in JNU for PhD. However, could not complete it due to arrest during the Emergency in 1975.

Yechury's wife Seema Chishti, whose 34-year-old son died of corona in 2021, is a journalist by profession. Yechury had said in an interview that his wife supports him financially. He was first married to Indrani Majumdar, daughter of Veena Majumdar. He has a daughter and a son from this marriage. Yechury's son Ashish died on April 22, 2021, at the age of 34 due to COVID-19.
